Kara is focused completely on the system she’s creating. Earth systems are so outdated compared to where Krypton was it feels like moving at prehistoric paces. She’s revamping CatCo’s entire framework.
“Hmm?” She hums back. She hears Kal shuffle a bit, put his crayons down.
“Are you a lesbian?”
If she’d been drinking this would be the moment where she comedically spits it out.
“I, what?” She tries to say more but her mouth just flutters so she repeats, “What?”
Kal seems unfazed by her response, only thoughtful.
“We’re learning about all the kinds of parents there are and how some people have two mommies who love each other like mommies and daddies do-“
“You only have one mommy, Kal, and there’s nothing wrong-“
“I know that! But they said it’s cause sometimes mommies only like other mommies. And I feel like that’s you.”
Kara is flabbergasted. The handful of coworkers still in the office are giggling, obviously loving witnessing this mother-son moment.
“Why do you feel like that?” She finally asks, voice controlled. Kal shrugs and begins to color again, already losing interest in the conversation.
“I dunno. You talk about Miss Lena a lot. And you said she was pretty the other day. And you act all funny and weird whenever you talk to her. And-“
“Okay I get it!” Kara says, exacerbated, ignoring the unbidden snorts of her coworkers. She sees Winn and Kal exchange one of their little looks. They’re a dangerous duo together.
“I am not a lesbian for Miss Lena, Kal, I don’t-“ she trails off when her phone dings, looks down to see a new text from the woman in question.
Dinner tonight? We can even go to that sticky place with the dinosaurs Kal loves so much.
She gets distracted typing her reply, briefly forgetting the conversation until Kal helpfully comments,
“Your face is red and smiley. Are you texting Miss Lena?”
Winn can’t control the explosive laughter that erupts and Kara slams her phone down with a huff. If she wasn’t red before she definitely is now.
“
No Federal civil rights law shall be interpreted to treat gender identity or transgender status as a protected class, unless such law expressly designates “gender identity” or “transgender status” as a protected class.
“
@yall I see ignoring this please dont. I get it its upseting, but this is IMPORTANT information that could SAVE our lives and our rights.
Also this boils down to stripping rights away from intersex and trans ppl from what I understand, meaning that we would no longer be protected under federal law. This is scary. Call your reps and get this shut down as soon as you can. We can beat this together. We need each other right now. Share this, spread this information.
how you can help:
call your local senator and representatives! websites like 5calls tell you your national representatives based on your location and if you use their mobile site, you can call those representatives through their site. they don’t yet have hb2796 on their site, but you can use their system regardless!
here is an example of something you can say: “My name is (your name) and I am a constituent in (your town/city/district). I strongly oppose house bill 2796, which aims to remove gender identity protections from civil rights legislation by forcibly clarifying “gender” or “sex” to indicate only a person’s assigned gender at birth. Transgender people require civil rights protections as a vulnerable part of our population, and it is extremely important to me that they receive those protections. Thank you for your time and attention.”
IF YOU LEAVE A VOICEMAIL: leave your street address to ensure your call is tallied!
when you call, they will not argue with you, and basically just tally how many people contact them on a certain issue. also, if you want to support other issues on the 5calls site, don’t be afraid to make multiple separate calls! call volume matters and if you call more separate times it will be better.
Dammit I hate to use this blog for this but- from one trans guy to yall- this is important!
I will never understand how people can’t love music in other languages, it’s not about what they say; it’s about how it makes me feel. It’s about the music, the melody, the tune and the tone of their voice and the way every artist pronounces words differently. I don’t need to understand a word for it to give me chills.
i love cutthroat kitchen but bingewatching makes it really stand out how often alton brown refers to himself as ‘daddy’ and makes contestants wear spreader bars
Lesbian/ace girl solidarity is when somebody’s like “how do you know he’s good-looking if you aren’t attracted to men???” And you look into the non-existent camera like you’re on the office
Lesbian/ace girl solidarity is also when your straight friend shows you an ugly rude piece of cheese boy, tells you ‘isnt he so hot??’, and you have three seconds to make your choice
I have to be honest here…you are 100% right, sorry straight girls
The Stanford prison experiment tapes were so stupid when I watched them in AP psych and so stupid when I watch this film about them. Literally they could’ve all sat and played cards and got $15 a day to tell ghost stories all day and be best friends. But masculinity and whiteness and power created this violent irrationality that positioned young ass men to be met with brutality and trauma and disrespect even when it was obviously taken too far. and it makes no sense. If someone put me in a room with Black girls and said I would get paid $90 a day (that’s the equivalent apparently) to be a prison guard, do you know how fast I’d be sitting with them and learning about them and exchanging Instagrams and like.. sleeping.. like what the fuck was the point of any of that…
My psych teacher introduced us to this study and literally before she showed us was like “don’t ever confuse a study based on one type of person (white men/boys) to be an example of an Everyman situation. There is strong evidence that if this was recreated with diversity, or even just with girls, that the results would have been drastically different. This is an example of bias and sexism in the medical research community.”
“Other, more subtle factors also shaped the experiment. It’s often said that the study participants were ordinary guys—and they were, indeed, determined to be “normal” and healthy by a battery of tests. But they were also a self-selected group who responded to a newspaper advertisement seeking volunteers for “a psychological study of prison life.” In a 2007 study, the psychologists Thomas Carnahan and Sam McFarland asked whether that wording itself may have stacked the odds. They recreated the original ad, and then ran a separate ad omitting the phrase “prison life.” They found that the people who responded to the two ads scored differently on a set of psychological tests. Those who thought that they would be participating in a prison study had significantly higher levels of aggressiveness, authoritarianism, Machiavellianism, narcissism, and social dominance, and they scored lower on measures of empathy and altruism.”
The thing about this study is that whether or not it’s generalizable to the public is debatable at best.
But it’s certainly generalizable to the population of people who tend to be drawn to prison system and law enforcement jobs because that’s exactly the demographics that tend to show up in those positions.
So, due to my job and worsening asthma, I am no longer able to wear my binders. As such, I’ve decided to give them away to people who can use them.
They’re both gc2b size L. I’ll be giving them away separately.
The gray half-tank was moderately used, and some of the stitching around the collar has come out (nothing not easily fixable; I’m just bad at sewing), but it’s otherwise in good condition. The hem still holds together, and I’ve had no problems with it coming apart more.
The white full-length was lightly used, and a section of stitches holding the panel to the front came out within the first few times of being worn (again, easily fixed), but it’s overall also in good condition. Despite the torn stitches, it still binds well and is easy–for a binder–to put on and take off.

So I’m doing a project on modern witches and I’m looking for some statistics. Please reblog this if you identify as LGBTQ and practice some form of witchcraft!
There’s plenty of resources out there available to you on Tumblr, you need only look. I’m sure there are plenty of energy work tags on plenty of blogs out there. The very basics of energy work is to learn how to ground, cleanse, and to sense it. I learned to ground from an old book for Wicca years ago. LOL
What is Energy Work?
To put it simply, energy work is working with unseen forces that’s generally labeled as energy. The concept of energy can take on many forms in both the physical and intangible. An object at rest can store up kinetic energy while the sun can emit solar energy. You have two sides to energy and that’s the scientific and then there’s energy work in witchcraft. Most practices utilizes some form of energy work guided by intention by the worker.
Centering yourself is the act of calming your mind and your emotions. It’s a kind of meditative state where you begin to feel more within and around you. The best way to learn to center is to learn to meditate. Meditation is the basic of most practices. You can reach a meditative state while walking, exercising, in the shower, reading, etc. You tend to focus your mind to the point where the rest of the world fades into the background. Active meditation aids you in keeping your body focused on a task that tends to be repetitive for your mind to become still. There are plenty of guided meditations you can try and search for on YouTube.
The basic idea was to sit down with your legs crossed and begin to meditate. You imagine yourself as a tree and set down roots where the base of your spine would be and the trunk being your spine, the sprouts above your head. The intention was to connect with the earth and then push out all your ‘bad’ energies into the earth and take within its energies to hold within yourself. Then release it and slowly come out of the meditative state by withdrawing your roots. I used this grounding method while starting out and it was a very common one to use. It didn’t work as well for me as my cosmic grounding method that I adjusted for the solar grounding within my post.
Typically, you should feel rejuvenated and relaxed when you ground. There’s plenty of guided meditation methods you can try. I even covered a few fire and solar grounding techniques within the post you commented on if you’d like to try those. Here’s plenty of links I have on hand with various grounding methods:
I learned to ground before I learned how to sense energy. Sensing energy involves a lot of patience, practice, and being patient with yourself. You don’t instantly become amazing at energy work. It takes you taking the time to repeatedly practice and push yourself. A good exercise to begin with is to start with your hands. Find a quiet place for yourself so you won’t be disturbed. Hold your hands, palms facing each other together. Now close your eyes and take deep breaths. (You don’t have to close your eyes yet I recommend it for the first time because removing the visual sense heightens your other senses.) Focus on the feel between your hands and gather your energy there. They should feel warm already just from having your hands together even before going into this with the intention of gathering energy from your body heat.
Next, slowly pull them apart and back together, not quite touching to focus on the feel against your palms. You should feel a slight push or pull. You can jiggle your hands a little side to side to get a feel for that sensation. The next step is to create a greater distance between your hands to work on sensing that energy between them. It can get weaker the further apart they are yet you’ll get better at it the more you play around with this. I used to play with this as a kid in school to make energy balls in my hands.
The next step up from working with your own energy is to work with plants. You hold your hands on either side of the plant with your palms pointing inward to each other. You concentrate on feeling for the plant’s energy, that slight push pulls against your hands. It’s important to take notes and keep track of how things feel for you because energy work will become subjective to you on your techniques over time. This method to feel a plant’s energy can be applied to rocks, objects, spirits, etc. Go nuts. I moved onto candles after plants when I started. You can figure out what energy you can feel and not feel.
Shielding is the act of using your energy or an outside source to create a protective shield around you. You can apply this as a personal shield around your body, an object, yourself, etc. This can range from protective wards to stopping others from intruding into your space. You can get creative as you’d like yet you’d have to tie the protective measure to an energy source to draw its power from. The most common forms of energy source to work with while beginning are the four basic elements (earth, air, fire, water), the moon, and the sun. You generally want to avoid using yourself as a source well as you have a finite amount of energy to provide and can tap yourself out by overworking yourself. There are physical objects you can use as protective measures or working with spirits yet I’m going to stick with the energy work focused for the purposes of this post.
The act of charging is using energy to fill up an object. It’s most commonly used with crystals. You often hear of people leaving various crystals or objects out in the sun or moon for awhile. This usually is to be filled with solar or lunar energies while at the same time become cleansed. You could charge water, candles, etc.
Programming is a continuation of charging and that is to give the object a purpose set through intention, sigils, spells, etc. The object itself has its own energy yet you can program it to act a certain way by specifying what for while charging the object. You can charge an object with your own energy, solar, lunar, fire, water, earth, air, whatever other energy sources you find or can think of. Setting the intention of the charging would create it’s programming which can be further enforced over using this object for its intended purpose. Repeatedly using it as such will cement in this programming.
Energy work isn’t a difficult thing to research at all. Before I discovered Tumblr, I learned everything from books and later Google when it was invented and computers became more mainstream. All it takes is for you to go out and look for the information because not everything is going to be handed to you. There’s so many 101 posts out there on Tumblr and now I’ve given you just one more to add to your arsenal.
i love experiencing how my classmates work to avoid misgendering me. for instance, today one classmate greeted the rest of our small group: “All right ladies and gentlemen — and Avery”
another time a classmate went: “Pardon me, ma’am — uh, sir, uh….esteemed one”
and, my absolute fave: “Hey ladies! — and gentleThem”
i love these moments both because they’re humorous and because they show how hard these folks are trying! it’s not about getting it right every time at first, but consistently correcting yourself!
It’s not about getting it right every time at first, but consistently correcting yourself!
I'ma need y'all to bring some good shit into this new season. Drink water. Punch Nazis. Clean your damn room. It’s Solstice and you better be bringing only good intentions with you. I’m not having y'all doubt yourself this season. I won’t stand for it.
Also, don’t think too much!!! Just do it! (Insert Shia Lebouf(idk how to spell his name???)) Don’t wait til you are motivated to do something! Dedicate yourself to just doing the thing!
if you’re butch in public you’re showing kids what kind of woman they can be. you’re a marvel and an open door. you are something they might have thought was impossible. you are the proof little butch girls need that they can exist grown up and happy and handsome without changing a single thing
This is being run by a friend of mine, help him, help Norm
This is Norm. Norm lives alone. He is a Korean War veteran. I met Norm 4 years ago and we bonded immediately. Recently Norm’s health has taken a turn. He was diagnosed with dementia. After a brief stay in the hospital the court awarded me guardianship of Norm. I’ve applied for veteran benefits for Norm and looked for a suitable placement for him. The good news is that between his Social Security benefits and new veteran benefits he can receive the care he needs. The bad news is that it will cost $5500 to get him in the door. Norm has no family to take care of him and I am determined to get him the help he needs. I took Norm to see the facility and he is eager to move in. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
I actually love the ungrateful millennial trope, because I went to the V&A today and took a lot of photos of statues’ butts, and it tired me out, so I went to the café and had a cup of tea. In the V&A café, there’s a piano that customers can just use without asking, and a man sat down at it and started to play. I know nothing about music, but it sounded great to me.
At the table next to me was an old couple, probably in their late 60s, and the man kept tutting and sighing as the chap played, and I heard him mutter to his wife, “this is a [insert musty dead white composer here], there should be more MELODY,” and he just kept griping.
Now, to me, an ignorant and uncultured millennial, it just seemed super cool that we were essentially getting a free piano accompaniment to our Earl Grey, and so I stayed a while to listen, because this guy had some balls getting up there to play in front of us all, and I wanted him to feel appreciated. I also live tweeted it, and the old man kept glaring at me for being on the phone. I kid you not.
When he was done, we all (including the grumpy old man) applauded for him, and he looked really surprised. I thought I’d let him know how much I loved it, because I have terrible social anxiety and am trying to get out of my shell a bit, so I approached him and said “I know nothing about music, but I really enjoyed hearing you play,” and he BEAMED.
Turns out that he’s a concert pianist over from Toronto and we essentially got treated to a free preview of his concert tomorrow night. We chatted for a bit and then I left, and the old couple still looked really grouchy.
But hey. Ungrateful millennials!!
Trust me. Millennials have been so deprived, you can give them a free napkin and they will cry. Old people have been so spoiled that you can literally give them a free symphony and they will bitch about it. Nothing satisfies old people.
when male academics constantly refer to men by their surnames and women by their first names
like you’d never go to a lecture expecting shakespeare to be referred to as “william” but it’s not at all uncommon to sit through an entire lecture in which jane austen is referred to constantly as “jane”
it’s such a petty thing but it just really rubs me the wrong way, like it has a real suggestion of respect and admiration/lack thereof
like i will see people apologize for making a lot of them and i’m just
dude
a) it’s YOUR blog, you can recite the greek alphabet one post at a time if you really want to
b) you don’t owe your followers shit
c) personal posts are fucking interesting, man. if i am following a blog i am okay! with knowing about the person behind that blog! nobody’s gonna begrudge you having a life outside the intermajig and talking about it.
Every day I’m still getting notes on an old post where I said that eating healthier costs more money and of course every so often is another health zealot swearing I’m wrong.
EXCEPT:
one dollar at dollar tree
one dollar at mcdonald’s
A fucking quarter almost everywhere
And what these bozos aren’t factoring in is that these foods, loaded with salts and fats and carbs and sugars, are FILLING for a shitload longer than whatever colon cleansing non-GMO avocado unicorn poop some thinspo blog is bragging about. The box of oatmeal creme cookies even lasts more than a day, just two of those things and I have no appetite again for hours.
Personally we are eating better and making more money currently but when I was a kid it was all the above shit and potatoes. Lots and fucking lots of potatoes.
STOP FUCKING TELLING POOR PEOPLE THEY’RE STUPID FOR NOT EATING LIKE YOUR HIPSTER ORGANIC CRAP
Another thing they’re forgetting is food waste. Fresh produce only lasts so long. So to regularly eat fresh you have to 1) go grocery shopping more often and 2) have your meals planned out ahead of time to use everything.
When you only have $50 or less for food for the month, it’s devastating to see $10 worth of fresh produce rot. Especially if it’s because you just don’t have time to cook it. (Poor people usually juggle multiple jobs, work overtime, or work jobs with inconsistent schedules like retail or food services.) They don’t have time to run to the grocery store 3+ times a week, especially if they have to hit up multiple stores to get the cheap prices. They don’t have time to spend 1+ hour every week doing a meal plan. And they probably don’t have that much time or energy to cook.
When I was severely poor (like, we determined which bill to pay each month by how close they were to being shut off. “We paid water last month, so they won’t turn it off until next month. It’s been two months of electricity though, so we should probably pay that before we get a cutoff.) we did not buy fresh. All our veggies were canned, because they don’t spoil. We had lots of ramen, just in case we ran out of money and couldn’t buy groceries for a while. We didn’t buy meat unless we knew we would cook it that day because we didn’t want to see it spoil. We ate a lot of boxed meals. And when I was working 60+ hours a week, you can bet your ass I ate a lot of cheap packaged shit like little debbie. Because I didn’t have time to cook before my 12 hour work day, I only got 4 hours of sleep and I wasn’t sacrificing 30 minutes for a hot breakfast, and I couldn’t afford to eat out.
Anyone who says shit like this has never been poor. When you’re poor it’s not just money you’re lacking, but time, and resources, and mother fucking energy. It’s rough. And I wouldn’t be so quick to judge them if I were you, because the poor have been through more than you could ever understand.
remember when i said veganism was clasist & not an option 4 most of society n they were all in my inbox actin like typical vegans…. well there u go
Veganism is amazingly classist and ablist. I’ve literally been equated to a child molestor because I can’t eat most vegetables without searing pain in my stomach as well as nausea.
Going vegan for moral reasons just means you care more about animals than you do about people in Third World countries and exploited labor in this country
Unfollow me if you support Trump’s Zero Tolerance Policy. I don’t give a shit if we’re mutuals or you’ve followed me for a long time. If you think that supporting this policy and believing that taking children away from their parents and keeping them in literal concentration camps is the key to solving immigration problems and is a good negotiating tactic then go fuck yourself you fucking nazi.
If you have queer friends in Russia, do not try to contact them to ask if they’re ok.
Russia has an insidious history of monitoring online communications of its citizens, especially political dissidents, and even though Tumblr/Twitter/Facebook/etc. are owned by American companies, they have to travel through Russian servers to get to your friend, which could get them in a lot of trouble.
If you want to help, I recommend donating to RUSA LGBT, a nonprofit that works to provide sanctuary to queer folks in Russia and Central Asia.
Kara was ready for game night but then all hell broke loose and everyone had to cancel leaving her alone to mope.
Another Missed Game Night
It had been one of the longer and more difficult weeks for Kara and her one light at the end of the tunnel had been the anticipation of game night with everyone she loved on Thursday.
She had been slowly cleaning her apartment between Supergirl saves and working on an article that just wasn’t working out all week and by Wednesday morning she could tell that it was at least acceptable enough to have company. A little super speed and it would look like she had a cleaning crew come through the place.
It all was set up, Winn was going to bring games and James, Alex was going to bring Maggie, J’onn would be a bit late but come by after settling things at the DEO, Lena had cleared her schedule and invited Jess along, Lucy was back in town and was going to look past any drama with James, and Ms. Grant even said she would bring Carter!
That was all until a band of five Hellgramites HAD to come through and destroy parts of both CatCo and L Corp. Of course that meant that both CEOs having to cancel to do damage control, Cat sending Carter to his father’s place for the next couple of days, and Jess being called in to be the amazing assistant she is. Lucy got called back to her secret government job and Alex, Maggie, and J’onn were in charge of interrogation and final containment of the rabble rousers.
As if the one last year hadn’t been hard enough to defeat, a group of five Hellgramites proved so challenging that Kara blew out her powers yet again and was sidelined by the DEO until they came back. She had only been cleared to go back to her apartment because they didn’t want her around in the case that they had difficulty containing a Hellgramite and it went after Supergirl without her powers.
